Humility: Humility captures the attention of God.

October 13, 2019 Speaker: Jordan Dayoub Series: Lessons from Proverbs

Passage: Proverbs 15:33, Proverbs 16:18, Proverbs 22:4,

The Bible redefines greatness for us. It shows us that path to true success. When Jesus’ disciples argued about who would be greatest in the kingdom he said, “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all”

The pattern of Scripture is suffering then glory. Humility then honor.

It’s a pattern that even Jesus submitted to. And it became the template for his life. Humility then honor. Jesus’ life was one of suffering before glory. Phil. 2:5-11

5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Humility is the only way to a cross shaped life—a cruciform life. But the rewards extend into eternity where we’ll be glorified with God forever in his holy presence.
